Title

Consider and take action on the purchase of eight (8) replacement vehicles through the Motor Pool Capital Replacement Fund, and one (1) new vehicle and the equipment to outfit public safety vehicles as part of the FY2011 Budget. (Assistant City Manager, Management Services)

Staff recommends approval.

Background:

The approved FY2011 budget includes funding for the replacement of eight (8) Police Patrol Units through the Motor Pool Capital Replacement fund and one (1) new additional vehicle for the Warrant Officer position. Funding was also approved for the necessary equipment to outfit the public safety vehicles which include the eight (8) patrol units, the additonal vehicle for the Warrant Officer, three (3) tahoes for the Police Department and two (2) EMS units that were previously approved by Council on October 12, 2010.

When purchasing replacement vehicles, staff considers the overall cost, fuel economy, emissions, and the type of warranty available. The vehicle will also be deemed to have met the needs and scope of work necessary for the particular department and/or operator.

HGAC, Buy Board and state contracts are used to ensure the procurement process is more efficient by establishing competitively priced contracts for goods and services.  By utililzing these contracts, the city meets the state formal bidding requirements. The cost for the eight (8) replacement vehicles and equipment is $388,808 and the cost for the additional vehicle and equipment is $47,471. The total amount for the equipment for the tahoes is $30,544 and the total for the EMS units is $37,440.
