Consider and take action on Ordinance No. 2015-26 to submit to the qualified voters of the City of League City a proposition authorizing the creation of the City of League City Municipal Development District and the imposition of a sales and use tax of one-fourth of one percent for the purpose of financing infrastructure and economic development projects and programs beneficial to the citizens of League City and its territory - Second Reading (Deputy City Manager)

Background:
Approval of this item declares and orders a Special Election be held in and throughout the City of League City on Tuesday, November 3, 2015. The City of League City will submit to the qualified and registered voters of the City a proposition authorizing the creation of a League City Municipal Development District and imposition of a sales and use tax of one-fourth (1/4) of one percent for the purpose of financing development projects beneficial to the district.
Chapter 377 of the Local Government Code provides that a municipality may call an election on the question of creating a municipal development district to plan, acquire, establish, develop, construct, or renovate one or more development projects beneficial to the district as defined by Section 4B(a), Development Corporation Act of 1979 (Article 5190.6, Vernon’s Texas Civil Statutes).
