Hold a public hearing on a proposal to increase total tax revenues from properties on the tax roll in the preceding tax year by 3.55 percent. This is the first of two required public hearings. Background:
The Property Tax Code requires two public hearings should the proposed ad valorem tax rate exceed the lower of the rollback rate or the effective rate as calculated pursuant to State law. On September 8, 2015, the City Council adopted a proposed tax rate of $0.5735 per $100 valuation. This rate exceeds the effective tax rate of $0.553829 per $100 valuation. Therefore, two public hearings are required. This is the first of those hearings. Notice of this hearing was published in the Galveston County Daily News on September 14, 2015. The notice was also posted on the City's website, www.leaguecity.com and appeared on the public access television channel.
The second hearing will be held on September 29, 2015 at 6 p.m., and the City Council is scheduled to adopt the 2015 ad valorem tax rate on October 6, 2015 at 5:30 p.m. September 29th and October 6th are both special called meetings of City Council.
