Consider and take action on a request by the St. Mary Catholic School for a variance to the Code of Ordinances of the City of League City, Chapter 74, Article I, Section 74-1, and entitled “Hours for use of city parks and boat ramps” for use of Hometown Heroes Park on April 30, 2016 - May, 1, 2016 for an annual school fundraiser (Director of Parks and Cultural Services)
Background:
Ms. Laura Noonan of the St. Mary’s Catholic School in League City is requesting the use of Hometown Heroes Park gymnasiums to host the annual school Gala Fundraiser and Silent Auction. The event is designed to raise funds for new school equipment, technology upgrades and basic operating expenses. St. Mary’s Catholic School is a designated 501(c)(3) organization which qualifies them for waiver of fees. The event is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. on April 30 and end at 1:00 a.m. on May 1, 2016.
As the event will last until 1:00 a.m., a variance is required for the 10:30 p.m. closing time as set forth by City Ordinance No. 90-09, Section 74-1. Approximately 300 people are expected to attend. Set-up and clean-up will be the responsibility of the St. Mary’s Catholic School.
Past history reveals that staff experienced no problems during the course of this event.
