Background:
Volunteers are one of the most important resources community organizations have. League City Police Department recognizes that the health and well-being of League City relies on a partnership with our citizens and other business owners. To that end, our agency adopted the Volunteers In Policing Program. The program is comprised of graduates of League City Police Department's Citizen Police Academy. We currently have 91 VIP's who volunteer over 7,000 hours of their time each year. Our VIP's conduct neighborhood and vacation patrols, disabled parking enforcement, golf cart inspections and code enforcement duties. In 2015 alone they collected 4,486 bandit advertisement signs.

We call our police volunteers VIP's. The VIP's support and supplement existing police services of LCPD. Although we could put a monetary value on their labor, this is too simplistic. There is an intrinsic value to their efforts. Having our citizens volunteer lends credibility to our programs, encourages fresh perspectives, provides immediate access to the community we serve, and stimulates public involvement on important issues.

Our volunteers are vibrant, dynamic, engaged, and self-reliant members of our society. They donate their time and talents for various reasons: to learn new skills, find new friends, challenge themselves, and, moreover, to give back to the community. Whatever the reason our VIPs choose to serve with League City Police Department, we are honored to recognize their service.

Texas Peace Officers have a tiered certification system comprised of a Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, and Master certifications.
