Title
Consider and take action on a resolution authorizing a professional services agreement with Sander Engineering Corporation for the Countryside #1 Lift Station Improvements Project (WW1705), in an amount not to exceed $64,800 (Director of Public Works)
Background:
Approval of this resolution will authorize a professional services agreement with Sander Engineering Corporation (SEC) for the design and construction phase engineering services related to the Countryside #1 Lift Station Improvements Project (WW1705).
The purpose of this project is to rehabilitate the Countryside #1 Lift Station of converting the dry pit “vertical centrifugal” pumping system to a submersible pumping system. Countryside # 1 Lift Station was constructed in 1976 and is one of the City’s oldest conveyance facilities. The station has served for forty-one years with minimal upgrades or major modifications. The initial scope work submitted in the CIP, included the replacement of the aging pumps, controls, piping, and valves. Recent and historical operational issues led to further evaluation of the facility needs. A history of poorly designed access to the wet well prevents safe access to clean and remove debris. Additionally, the 30-foot-deep dry pit pump location can only be accessed by an extremely angled stairway that is also a major safety concern. The dry pit configuration is also susceptible to flooding during extreme weather events. This occurred on two separate occasions including tropical storm Allison in 2001, when the dry pit flooded and was out of service for seven days, while city staff worked to restore operation. The proposed submersible pump configuration is the standard for ninety percent of the City’s existing lift stations and restores the industry standard safety and operational features. This allows all pumps to be safely removed and reinstalled from ground level, along with relocating all discharge valves and electrical controls to an above-ground level. The pro...
