Title
Consider and take action on a resolution to authorize and direct the City Manager to determine alternatives to improve drainage of all waterways and to engage the participation of regional governmental entities that would also benefit from this comprehensive plan (Councilman Dugie and Councilman Millican)

Background:
Approval of this resolution will authorize and direct the City Manager to determine alternatives to improve drainage of all waterways and to engage the participation of regional governmental entities that would also benefit from this comprehensive plan.

Due to the catastrophic flooding that was resulted in damage and loss to properties in the City of League City Texas, improving drainage remains a critical mission for the City. Flooding is a regional problem, and a solution requires the participation by all governmental entities in the region.

The City of League City will be taking the lead in that effort to identify a solution, quantify a cost, and engage our regional partners to assist in achieving the goal of a permanent drainage solution that significantly reduces the risk of flooding in the City and the region.

The City Council authorizes and directs the City Manager to determine alternatives to improve drainage of all waterways and minimize the threat of flooding to adjacent areas, with a scope that ensures that the study once completed would be sufficient to present to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for its consideration to undertake any drainage solution(s) proposed therein.

The City Council further directs the City Manager to engage participation in this comprehensive plan by other government entities in the region, including Galveston County, Harris County, Galveston County Drainage District, Brazoria Drainage District No. 4, and the Cities of Pearland, Friendswood, and Dickinson, all of which would benefit from a regional drainage solution.
