Title
Consider and take action on a resolution to approve an agreement with the Municipal Emergency Services for Firefighter Bunker Gear in an amount not to exceed $94,737.60 (Fire Chief)
Background:
Approval of this resolution will approve an agreement with the Municipal Emergency Services for Firefighter Bunker Gear in an amount not to exceed $94,737.60 through a cooperative agreement with HGAC.
Bunker Gear is a fire fighter's personal protective equipment that is used to provide limited protection against adverse environmental effects during structural firefighting operations and certain other emergency operations where there is a threat of fire or where certain physical hazards are likely to be encountered. The Texas Commission on Fire Protection regulations require bunker gear to be removed from service after 10 years from the date of manufacture.
Municipal Emergency Services (MES) has been selected as the vendor to purchase Bunker Gear for the Fire Department. This agreement is based on a unit cost basis with a contract price of $2,786.40 per set, which consists of a jacket and pair of pants.
In the FY 2018 budget, the Fire Department budgeted $48,513 to spend on bunker gear. However, they did not purchase bunker gear due to the discontinuation of their current specification. The Department formed a committee and wear tested bunker gear from various vendors. After a vendor was selected, the committee took their recommendations to the membership where the membership approved the new specification. Staff is requesting authorization to purchase 34 sets of bunker gear during fiscal year 2019 from MES for $94,737.60.
