Consider and take action on a resolution authorizing the submission of an application for the Federal Emergency Management Agency - FY 2018 Assistance to Firefighters Grant for the purchase and the installation of a diesel exhaust extraction system in Fire Station 1, Fire Station 2 and EMS Station 1 (Fire Chief)
Background:
Approval of this item will allow the Fire Department to apply for funding to purchase and install a diesel exhaust extraction system in Fire Station 1, Fire Station 2 and EMS Station 1 through the Federal Emergency Management Agency - FY 2018 Assistance to Firefighters Grant. The proposed funding for this project would be $250,000 in which 90% of this finding amount would be covered by the Assistance to Firefighters Grant. If the grant is awarded, the City of League City would be responsible for paying no more than $25,000.00 for the 10% city match which is required by this grant funding opportunity. The Fire Department would request a budget amendment to the current FY2019 budget for the funding for this project not to exceed $25,000.
The purpose of this grant would be to have the diesel exhaust extraction systems installed into Fire Station 1, Fire Station 2 and EMS Station 1 so that when the apparatus are started the diesel exhaust, which contains known cancer causing toxins, will be extracted from the apparatus bays thus reducing the amount of toxins inhaled by the personnel at these stations.
