Consider and take action on a resolution authorizing the purchase of three (3) replacement and two (2) new pieces of equipment through state contracts and quotes in an amount not to exceed $230,857.35 (Director of Public Works)

Background:

Approval of this resolution will authorize the purchase of three (3) replacement and two (2) new pieces of equipment, that was approved in the FY20 Budget, through state contracts and quotes in an amount not to exceed $230,857.35.

Equipment Replacement

A total of 16 pieces of equipment were eligible for the FY2020 replacement however only the two aforementioned units met the fleet equipment replacement criteria.  The existing mini excavator has been in service for 11 years and the current Case backhoe is 24 years old.  Both units are assigned to Line Repair and used in day to day operations for handling water and sewer line repairs. Both units will be purchased from Mustang Cat using H-GAC contract EM06-19.  The Caterpillar 301.5 Mini Excavator contract pricing is $27,848.39.  The Caterpillar 430F Backhoe Loader contract cost is $123,057.44.  Total funding for the replacement equipment will be $150,905.83.

Haz-Mat Conversion Vehicle

Rescue 2 is a 2004 Spartan Super Vacuum Rescue truck assigned to the fire department and will be converted and refurbished from a Heavy Rescue to a Haz Mat/Rescue truck.  This project will include upgrading/redesigning the body front, body sides, body rear, interior cab and graphics.  Metro Fire Apparatus will handle the conversion for a total cost of $46,268.

New Purchases

The Streets Department purchased a Bobcat wheeled skid steer in FY2017.  In FY2018 the division partook in an exchange program allowing the skid steer to be replaced with the current year model for $1,500.  This fiscal year the department will upgrade from the existing wheeled skid steer to a tracked skid loader.  The tracked loader will allow for access to hard to reach or inaccessible areas while also ...
