Title:

Consider and take action on a resolution authorizing an interlocal agreement between the City of League City and the Galveston County Health District for the GCHD to provide 340B program services to the City of League City (Director of Human Resources and Civil Service)

Background:

Approval of this item will authorize the City to enter into an interlocal agreement with the Galveston County Health District (Coastal Health and Wellness) for GCHD to provide 340B specialized drug pricing services to the City of League City.

The 340B Drug Discount Program is a federal government program created in 1992 that requires drug manufacturers to provide outpatient drugs to eligible health organizations at significantly reduced prices. As a local government entity, the City of League City is able to take advantage of the 340B services through GCHD and their Coastal Health and Wellness clinic.  The agreement allows the City to send employees that require specialized medications through the clinic to physicians who can then prescribe specialty medications at discounted rates.  The GCHD physician's work with the employee's primary physician and specialists to obtain the specialized medications through the 340B pharmacies.  Estimates suggest that the program could save the City approximately $450,000 over the course of a year, at no program cost to the City and a physician's visit cost for employees.

Employee's would be able to obtain their specialized medications through a 340B pharmacy or by mail through our specialty pharmaceutical plan.

Current Specialty Medication Spending:  $812,563

Expected 340B Specialty Medication Spending: $362,268

Total Estimated Savings:  $450,295
