Title

Consider and take action on a resolution authorizing: 1) the purchase of three (3) 2027 Ford Police Interceptor Explorers and one (1) 2027 Ford Explorer in a total amount not to exceed $193,891 from Chastang Ford; and 2) the purchase of related emergency equipment and installation services from Dana Safety Supply, Inc. in an amount not to exceed $82,911  (Director of Public Works)

 

Background:

Approval of this item will authorize 1) the purchase with Chastang Ford for three (3) 2027 Ford Police Interceptor Explorers and one (1) 2027 Ford Explorer in a total amount not to exceed $193,891; and 2) the purchase with Dana Safety Supply for related emergency equipment and installation services in an amount not to exceed $82,911.

 

Unit 102, a 2018 Ford Interceptor Explorer with 66,094 miles, was involved in an accident on January 23, 2026.  Following a comprehensive inspection by the City’s insurance carrier, TML, the vehicle was deemed a total loss, and the City will receive an insurance payment in the amount of $6,869.

 

Unit 151, a 2017 Ford Interceptor Explorer with 50,158 miles, was involved in an accident on February 8, 2026.  Following a comprehensive inspection by the City’s insurance carrier, TML, the vehicle was deemed a total loss, and the City will receive an insurance payment in the amount of $7,094.

 

Unit 212, a 2017 Ford Interceptor Explorer with 88,347 miles, was involved in an accident on January 31, 2026.  Following a comprehensive inspection by the City’s insurance carrier, TML, the vehicle was deemed a total loss, and the City will receive an insurance payment in the amount of $6,329.

 

Unit 301, a 2009 Toyota Camry with 79,754 miles, was involved in an accident on December 17, 2025. Following a comprehensive inspection by the City’s insurance carrier, TML, the vehicle was deemed a total loss, and the City will receive an insurance payment in the amount of $8,473.

 

To ensure the best pricing and benefit to the City, quotes for the vehicle were obtained from cooperative purchasing contracts, state contracts, and local retail with the following results:

 

2027 Ford Police Interceptor Explorer (3) - $152,076

GoodBuy - $50,692 ($152,076)

BuyBoard - $51,492 ($154,476)

Retail - $52,092 (156,276)

 

2027 Ford Explorer (1) - $41,815

GoodBuy - $41,815 (includes $200 fee)

BuyBoard - $42,215 (includes $400 fee)

Retail - $43,015

 

Emergency equipment and installation services - $82,911

Dana Safety Supply - $82,911

Siddons Martin - $85,554

Defender Supply - $95,634

 

Based on the results, staff recommend procuring the replacement vehicles, three (3) 2027 Ford Police Interceptor Explorers and one (1) 2027 Ford Explorer from Chastang Ford for $193,891 (including $200 purchasing fee) using GoodBuy Contract# 26 8F000 and emergency equipment and installation services from Dana Safety Supply for $82,911 under TIPS USA Contract #240102. Other patrol equipment, such as the radio and Opticom, will be reused.

 

The total purchase cost for these units and all related emergency equipment and installation service, including the $200 GoodBuy purchasing fee, will be $276,802 less the $28,765 insurance reimbursement for a total net cost of $248,037.

FUNDING

{X} Funds in the amount of $276,802 are available in the Capital Replacement Account# 40203600-55520.  Funding is available from the $200,000 budgeted for emergency vehicle replacement and projected savings within other budgeted purchases.
