Consider and take action on a resolution to rename the Bay Colony Park on Ervin Street to the Pat Hallisey Park (Mayor Long, Mayor Pro Tem Tommy Cones, Council Member Justin Hicks)

 

Background:

Approval of this item will rename the Bay Colony Park on Ervin Street to the Pat Hallisey Park.

 

Pat Hallisey has served many roles and accomplished multiple feats in League City:

                     Mayor of League City in 1994-1995 and was elected as Mayor again in 2016-2022

                     Pool manager for the City beginning in 1977, before being promoted to parks director for League City in October of 1979, where he remained until October of 1981

                     The first League City employee to make a profit for the city's pool summer program

                     Drafted the League City Park Ordinance that the City utilizes today

 

In addition to his service for the City of League City, Hallisey has held many positions in town:

                     President of the Gulf Amateur Athletic Union

                     President of the of Save Butler Oaks Committee on Main Street, saving the oak trees from destruction

                     League City Lions Club member from 1976-1984, serving as vice president

                     President of the League City Jaycees, serving from 1977-1985

                     Board member of the League City Proud organization

                     Co-founder of the Holiday in the Park event in League City

                     Project manager for Helen's Garden.

 

Outside of League City, Hallisey:

                     Was a founder of the Texas Beach and Shore Preservation Association

                     Served as executive director of Galveston County Parks System, and during his time he renovated and re-named county parks including Jack Brooks Park, Paul Hopkins Park, Gregory Park and Pocket Park No. 3

                     Raised funds to rebuild the Walter Hall Pavilion and park after a devastating arson fire

                     Led the Galveston County Park Board, and during his time grants were written for the building of Bay Ridge and Countryside parks, as well as improvements at League Park

                     Served as president of "Clean Galveston," the organization which won the Governors Achievement Award for $100,000 and was recognized by Keep America Beautiful

 

Recognitions Hallisey has received include:

                     The first recipient of the Texas Coastal Contribution Award

                     Friend of the Legion Award by American Legion Post No. 554

                     The Legacy Honoree Award from "Innovative Alternatives"

                     The Golden Eagle Award by the Bay Area Boy Scouts

                     The Paul Harris Fellow Award from Rotary International

                     Certificate of recognition from Congressman Randy Weber of the 14th Congressional District of Texas for his commitment to community
