Consider and take action on an ordinance formally adopting the various charter amendments that were approved by a majority of qualified voters during the November 5, 2024 charter election (City Attorney)
Staff requests approval on first and final reading.
Background:
Approval of this item will formally adopt the various charter amendments from the November charter election. On November 5, 2024, the City of League City, Texas conducted a special election concerning several proposed amendments to the City Charter and a total of 57,432 ballots were cast.
Each voter received one (1) ballot for the propositions from which each of the propositions received the following number of votes:
PROPOSITION A For 29,730 Against 16,780
PROPOSITION B For 26,293 Against 20,038
PROPOSITION C For 31,020 Against 13,248
PROPOSITION D For 34,004 Against 13,028
PROPOSITION E For 31,065 Against 16,376
PROPOSITION F For 24,632 Against 22,453

PROPOSITION H For 34,439 Against 11,120
PROPOSITION I For 34,711 Against 12,759
As required by the Texas Election Code, the City canvassed the returns of the November 5, 2024 special election on November 19, 2024 through Resolution 2024-2017. Ordinance 2024-217 did not contain the finalized language that will be included in the Charter.
Under Section 9.005 of the Texas Local Government Code, a charter amendment does not take effect until the governing body of the municipality formally enters an order in the records of the municipality declaring that the charter amendment is adopted. Staff recommends approval of this ordinance, which formally enters an order in the records of the City declaring the charter amendments adopted and contains the finalized language that will be included in the Charter.
