Title

Consider and take action on a resolution authorizing the submission of a grant application to the Governor’s Office to seek funding for the Body-Worn Camera Grant Program to offset costs associated with funding the department’s body-worn camera program (Chief of Police)

Background:

The Office of the Governor is soliciting grant applications from law enforcement agencies to equip police officers with body-worn cameras. The police department hopes to offset some of the budgeted costs incurred through its current body-worn camera contract with Axon Enterprises, Inc. for fiscal year 2025 if awarded the grant funds.

The League City Police Department requests approval to submit a grant package estimated at approximately $119,671. This funding would pay 75% of the agency’s current body-worn camera contract costs. The awarded funds could be used to pay for Axon body-worn cameras, unlimited cloud storage for captured videos, auto-tagging, and associated licenses required to utilize and manage the evidence collected through these cameras.

This grant mandates a match requirement of 25%. The match requirement would not be an increased expense for League City since the Council approved a five-year contract with Axon Enterprises, Inc. in 2023.
