Title

Consider and take action on a resolution authorizing the purchase of replacement Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) airpacks with Metro Fire Apparatus Specialists, Inc., through BuyBoard Contract 689-23 for an amount not to exceed $72,000 (Fire Chief)

Background:

Approval of this resolution will authorize the purchase of Self Contained Breathing Apparatuses (SCBA) airpacks. This purchase will allow for the rotation of older airpacks that are currently on Engine 12 to be placed at the Fire Training Facility for use during training exercises. Nine older airpacks that are currently at the training field will be taken out of service and disposed of.

The procurement process was difficult for this because it is necessary for the safety of our firefighters to have only the airpacks that they are trained to use. According to the manufacturer, there are only two authorized vendors that can sell the brand of airpack we use in our region, Metro Fire Apparatus Specialists, Inc. and Municipal Emergency Services (MES). Metro Fire Apparatus provided an in house/direct quote and a quote from BuyBoard. MES provided a quote through HGAC contract pricing. MES will not offer direct pricing to customers. The Metro Fire Apparatus pricing through BuyBord was the lowest.
