Title
Consider and take action an ordinance amending Chapter 22 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of League City entitled, "Building and Building Regulations" to adopt the National Electric Code, 2023 Edition (Executive Director of Development Services)
Background:
The National Electric Code establishes rules and regulations for the construction, alteration, removal, demolition, use, location, and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment as defined in the code, including permits and penalties. The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) is responsible for the statewide regulation of electricians and requires licensed electricians to follow the most recently adopted National Electric Code. The TDLR adopted the National Electric Code, 2023 Edition with an effective date of September 1, 2023.
Approval of this item amends Chapter 22 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of League City entitled “Building and Building Regulations,” specifically Section 22-59 entitled “National Electrical Code Adopted” to adopt the building code known as the National Electrical Code, 2023 edition, including all appendices adopted by the National Fire Protection Association.
Staff recommends approval of the adoption of the 2023 National Electric Code with an effective date of December 1, 2023. This will not impact permits in review prior to December 1st.
