Consider and take action on an ordinance disannexing approximately 1.3347 acres of land currently located within the corporate limits of League City, Texas, and authorizing related boundary adjustments with the City of Friendswood (City Attorney)
Staff requests approval on first and final reading.
Background:
This ordinance removes (disannexes) a 1.3347-acre piece of land from the official city limits of League City. The land is owned by the City of Friendswood and is located near Lake Friendswood and West League City Parkway. Friendswood wants to use this land as part of a public park.
League City and Friendswood signed an Interlocal Agreement, which is a legal contract between government entities. That agreement says League City will disannex the land, and Friendswood will annex it into their city.
This action is allowed under Texas Local Government Code § 43.142, which permits cities to adjust their boundaries through ordinances and agreements like this.
Once approved, League City staff will: 1) update the city’s official boundary map, 2) file the ordinance with Galveston County, and 3) notify state and local agencies and utility providers of the boundary change.
