Title
Consider and take action on a resolution accepting a $30,000 Best Friends Animal Society Grant to be used towards League City Animal Shelter spay and neuter expenses (Chief of Police)
Background:
Approval of this item will authorize the city to accept a $30,000 grant from Best Friends Animal Society awarded to the League City Animal Shelter for its commitment to maintaining a “no-kill” shelter status.
Best Friends Animal Society is a non-profit dedicated to ending the killing of dogs and cats in America’s shelters through building community partnerships and programs across the country.
These grant funds will go towards the medical costs of spay and neuter procedures carried out on shelter animals. Animal Shelter Staff will initiate a Request for Proposals (RFP) to identify the most competitive pricing, ensuring that the grant funds are utilized to their maximum potential. To date, the shelter has spayed and neutered 919 animals costing an estimated $85,000 in 2023’s budget.
