Background:
Approval of this item will order a Special Election for the City of League City on Saturday, January 13, 2024, to a Council Member to Position 4; ordering a Runoff Election on Saturday, February 17, 2024, if necessary.
Under Article 11, Section 11 of the Texas Constitution, any vacancy occurring on the City Council that has an unexpired term of more than 12 months, must be filled by a majority vote of the qualified voters at a special election called within one hundred and twenty (120) days after such vacancy. Under Article II, Section 6 of the City Charter, a seat on the City Council shall be filled for the remainder of the unexpired term at a special election called for such purpose, unless the next regular City Election is to be held within one hundred twenty (120) days from the time of such vacancy.
