Consider and take action on an ordinance appointing Judge Dick Hoskins Gregg, III and Judge Richard Cope as the associate judges of the Municipal Court of Record in the City of League City for a two-year term beginning February 1, 2024 and ending January 31, 2026 and appointing Judge Laticia Fuhr and Judge Shari Goldsberry as associate judges for the Municipal Court of Record in the City of League City for a two-year term beginning January 1, 2024 and ending December 31, 2025 (Director of Finance)

Background:
Approval of this agenda item will re-appoint Judge Dick Hoskins Gregg, III (“Gregg”) and Judge Richard Cope (“Cope”) as associate judges for a two-year term ending on January 31, 2026 and authorize an agreement with Gregg and Cope for various judicial services at a rate of $200 per hour, with a compensation cap of $50,000 per year. Approval of this agenda item will also appoint Judge Laticia Fuhr (“Fuhr”) and Judge Shari Goldsberry (“Goldsberry”) as associate judges for a two-year term ending on December 31, 2025 and authorize an agreement with Fuhr and Goldsberry for various judicial services at a rate of $200 per hour, with a compensation cap of $50,000 per year.

Under Section 30,00008 of the Texas Government Code, is a vacancy occurs in the Office of the Municipal Judge of a Court of Record, the governing body shall by ordinance or charter provide for the appointment of a qualified person to fill the office for the remainder of the unexpired term.

The City currently has five municipal court judge positions: a presiding judge and four associate judges. The presiding judge position is held by McCumber through February 7, 2025. This agenda item will re-appoint Gregg and Cope as two of the existing associate judges and add Fuhr and Goldsberry as the two remaining associate judges.
