Background:
August 19, 2024 - Public notice was posted of the proposed ordinance amendments in the Galveston Daily News and at City Hall.
September 9, 2024 - The Planning and Zoning Commission held a public hearing and recommended approval, 7-0-0.
September 24, 2024 - The City Council held a public hearing and approved the proposed ordinance on first reading, 8-0-0.
October 8, 2024 - The City Council will consider the request on second reading.

Project Summary:
Approval of this request will amend the text of the Unified Development Code will decrease the tree clearance requirement above sidewalks.

The proposed ordinance amendments aim to reduce the burden of tree maintenance over sidewalks for property owners within League City. A summary of the proposed change is listed below.

Proposed Changes to the Allowable Height of Trees Above Sidewalks
The current regulations require tree branches or limbs to be at least 15 feet above both streets and sidewalks. The proposed amendment seeks to maintain the 15-foot clearance above streets but reduce the required clearance above sidewalks to 8 feet.

On September 9, 2024, the Planning and Zoning Commission recommended approval of the proposed text amendments, 7-0-0 with one member absent.

On September 24, 2024, the City Council approved the proposed text amendments, 8-0-0.
