Title

Consider and take action on a resolution approving the purchase and installation of shade sails for the Animal Shelter from Shade Systems for an amount not to exceed $77,723.90 (Chief of Police)

Background:

Approval of this item will allow the Animal Shelter to purchase and install shade sails over the outdoor canine yards. The shade sails will provide consistent shade while maintaining airflow. Shelter staff and volunteers use these areas daily for animal care, and potential adopters use them for outdoor meet-and-greet interactions.

The shade sails will reduce direct heat exposure and the risk of dogs overheating while creating a more comfortable environment for staff, volunteers, and visitors. Funding the project through the shelter’s donation fund directly supports animal welfare and improves the safety and usability of the outdoor adoption areas.

The project includes the professional installation of commercial-grade, UV-resistant, high-density polyethylene shade sails supported by permanent steel posts secured in concrete footings. Shade Systems Inc. provided a quote of $77,723.90 for materials and installation. The purchase will be made through the BuyBoard cooperative purchasing program.
