Title
Consider and take action on a resolution directing removal of the City’s automated license plate reader cameras at fixed locations along public roadways if a majority rejects continued use of those cameras in the November 3, 2026 election, and addressing related matters (Mayor Long)
Background:
Approval of this item will establish the steps City staff must take if a majority of valid votes cast on Proposition A are “No,” including removal or covering of the City’s roadway cameras within 72 hours after the official canvass.

A “Yes” vote expresses a preference to continue the use described in Proposition A. A “No” vote expresses a preference to discontinue that use.
Council Direction Before the Election:
Council intends to honor the outcome of the election and wishes to make clear, before ballots are cast, what the City will do if a majority votes “No” on Proposition A. Adopting this resolution in advance would give voters a transparent account of the City’s planned response and demonstrate Council’s commitment to following through on their decision.
Staff Actions Required Following a Majority “No” Vote:
The resolution would direct staff to:
· Remove or cover City cameras within 72 hours. Have the City’s vendor remove the City’s fixed roadway cameras within 72 hours after Council completes the official canvass. Any cameras remaining in place must be covered or bagged by that deadline to prevent collection of license plate images and ...
