Background:
Approval of this item will award the bid for the purchase of high molecular weight Polyacrylamide Cationic Emulsion Liquid Polymer to Fort Bend Services. This commodity is used for municipal wastewater sludge conditioning and mechanical dewatering at the City of League City's wastewater treatment facilities. It acts as a flocculent agent in the solids/water separation of digested sludge, significantly increasing the water removal efficiency, reducing the overall volume of sludge disposal, therefore reducing costs.
Bids were received for these products on May 6, 2014. Two responses were received from local providers; Armstrong and Fort Bend Services. Price per pound bid results were:
Armstrong: $1.52/lb x 50,000 lbs (estimated annual usage) = $ 76,000
Fort Bend $ 1.22/lb x 50,000 lbs (estimated annual usage)= $61,000.
The City's current pricing is $1.35/ lb. This bid price will create an estimated annual savings of $6,500.
