Council approved first reading 7-1-0 on February 24, 2015.
 
Background:
Approval of this item will authorize the reduction of the posted speed on the IH-45 southbound and northbound main lanes for the duration of the TxDOT asphalt concrete pavement overlay project.
TxDOT is preparing for construction of an Asphalt concrete pavement overlay on the southbound and northbound main lanes.  The traffic control study during construction requires a decrease of 10 mph of the posted speed, initiation of the required City Ordinance has been requested.
They (TxDOT) are requesting the City approve the reduction of the posted speed of 65 MPH to 55 MPH from the north city limit line to the south city limit line, a distance of approximately 3.735 miles. The project is scheduled for letting in April 2015.  The anticipated start and completion date has not been stated by TxDOT at this time. Upon completion of the construction and removal of the traffic control devices the speed limit will return to 65 mph.
