Consider and take action to name the Galveston County Daily News as the official newspaper for the City of League City (City Manager)
Background:
Approval of this item will allow the City Council to designate the official newspaper for the City of League City for the ensuing year. The City Charter requires that an official newspaper be selected annually. “Article X, Section 13 - Designation of official newspaper. - All ordinances and official notices required to be published shall be published in the official newspaper of the city, which newspaper shall be selected annually as such official newspaper”.
The purchasing department issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for newspaper advertising. Three proposals were received. The Galveston County Daily News (GCDN), The Post Newspaper (incumbent) and The Bay Area Citizen Newspaper submitted responses. An evaluation team was formed and graded the proposals based upon the specific criteria included in the RFP:
• Cost
• Circulation
• References and experience
• Public information news items for citizens of League City
The summary reflects scores that were very comparable between the three respondents. Some vendors fared better on price, some on circulation and others on public information.
Based upon the circulation, the availability to provide information to the citizenry on a daily basis (rather than a semi - weekly basis) and the limited difference in cost, I would recommend that the Council name the Galveston County Daily News as the official newspaper for the City.
