Title
Consider and take action on a request by the Clear Creek Independent School District Department of Military Science for a variance to waive park rental fees and a variance to the Code of Ordinances of the City of League City, Chapter 74, Article I, Section 74-1, entitled “Hours for use of city parks and boat ramps” for overnight use of the Hometown Heroes Park field on October 30-31, 2015 (Director of Parks and Cultural Services)

Background:
If approved, this item will waive park rental fees and allow overnight use of Hometown Heroes Park for a fund raising event for veterans transitioning to civilian life. Mr. James Courtney of the Clear Creek Independent School District Military Science Department is requesting the use of Hometown Heroes Park walking circle and surrounding field area to host the Veterans Relay. The event is designed to raise funds to support organizations that help veterans and their families as they transition from active duty to civilian life. The event is scheduled to begin at 9:00 p.m. on October 30 and end at 7:00 a.m. on October 31, 2015.

As such, Council action is necessary to waive fees for the proposed fundraising event. The total estimate cost proposed for waiver is $440.00.

Walking area being used available at no charge = $0.00
Use of lights for 10 hours at $24 per hour = $240.00
Park Attendant for 10 hours at $20 per hour = $200.00

As the relay will last through the night of October 30, a variance is required for the 10:30 p.m. closing time as set forth by City Ordinance No. 90-09, Section 74-1. Approximately 50 people are expected to attend. Set-up and clean-up will be the responsibility of...
