Consider and take action on a request from League City Proud for a variance to Chapter 74, Section 74-1 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of League City, Texas, entitled “Hours for use of city parks and boat ramps” for use of the Chester L. Davis Sportsplex for parking and overnight stay of the carnival equipment and personnel from November 30, 2015 - December 7, 2015 (Director of Parks and Cultural Services)
Background:
If approved, this item will allow for a variance requested by Janice Hallisey of League City Proud to use Chester L. Davis Sportsplex for the parking and overnight stay of carnival equipment and personnel related to the annual Holiday in the Park event. The request is scheduled to begin November 30, 2015 and end on December 7, 2015. A variance is required for the use of the park between 10:30 pm and 6:00 am as set forth by City Ordinance No. 90-09. Approximately 100 people and 40 vehicles/recreational vehicles will occupy the north parking lot by the blue pavilion. The blue pavilion will be unlocked for restroom and shower capabilities. The Police Department will be notified to monitor for any abnormal activity. This is the tenth consecutive year League City Proud has made this request and has received approval from City Council the past nine years.
Past history reveals that staff experienced no problems during the course of this overnight usage.
