Consider and take action on the award of a construction contract to Classic Irrigation & Landscape in the amount of $120,921.25 for the South Shore Boulevard Sidewalk Project (Bid # 15-043), and authorization of a Work Change Directive budget in the amount of $6,000 (Deputy City Manager)
Background:
Approval of this item will authorize the award of a construction contract to Classic Irrigation & Landscape for construction of the South Shore Boulevard Sidewalk Project from Island Crossing Lane to Brook Arbor Lane.
The intent of the project is to layout, perform general excavation, construct approximately 3,620 linear feet of a five-foot wide, 4-inch-thick meandering sidewalk; from the north side of Island Crossing Lane to the south side of Brook Arbor Lane along the east side of South Shore Boulevard. Additionally, construction shall include ADA compliant curb ramps, crosswalk pavement markings, traffic control and SWPPP measures.
The City Council, at its May 12, 2015 meeting, authorized the City Manager to negotiate and execute an agreement with the Lakes of South Shore Harbor Homeowners Association to share costs for the construction of a sidewalk on the east side of South Shore Boulevard from Island Crossing Lane to Brook Arbor Lane. The HOA agreed to contribute $50,000 to the cost of construction.
Bid documents were prepared by the Engineering Department staff with appropriate Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation notifications and approvals. Upon completion of the project, an inspection by TDLR will be required. Sealed bids for the project were received on September 15, 2015; whereas Classic Irrigation & Landscape submitted the lowest Bid in the amount of $120,921.25. Based on verification of six references, Classic Irrigation & Landscape is qualified and capable of performing this project. This project is anticipated to take 60 calendar days from the notice to proceed to substantial completion; 75 days to final completion.
