Hold a public hearing regarding the proposed City-initiated annexation of approximately 8.53 acres of land located east of the western right of way of Lawrence Road to the eastern right of way of Lawrence Road, encompassing all of Lawrence Road north of SH 96 (League City Parkway) and south of FM 2094 (Marina Bay Drive) in Galveston County, Texas (Director of Planning and Development)
Background:
This is the second of two required public hearings regarding the proposed City-initiated annexation of approximately 8.53 acres of land located east of the western right of way of Lawrence Road to the eastern right of way of Lawrence Road, encompassing all of Lawrence Road north of SH 96 (League City Parkway) and south of FM 2094 (Marina Bay Drive). A map of the proposed area to be annexed is attached.
The first public hearing was held by City Council on September 8, 2015 and there were no speakers for or against this request.
Project Timeline:
July 28, 2015 - City Council initiated annexation proceedings, setting public hearings, and directing the preparation of service plan.
August 9, 2015 - Notice of 1st Public Hearing was mailed to utility/service providers and Galveston County, the responsible party for Lawrence Road.
August 23, 2015 - Notice of 1st Public Hearing was published in Galveston Daily News.
September 8, 2015 - 1st Public Hearing before City Council.
September 21, 2015 - Planning and Zoning Commission recommended zoning for annexed land.
September 25, 2015 - Notice of 2nd Public Hearing mailed to utility/service providers and Galveston County, the responsible party for Lawrence Road.
September 27, 2015 - Notice of 2nd Public Hearing published in Galveston Daily News.
October 13, 2015 - 2nd Public Hearing held by City Council.
November 10, 2015 - 1st Reading of Annexation Ordinance by City Council.
December 22, 2015 - 2nd Reading of Annexation Ordinance by City Council. Adoption of Annexation Ordinance.
Staff Recommendation:
Staff recommends that the City Council hold the public hearing and receive any written and oral comments.
