Consider and take action on a resolution to approve the Dr. Ned and Fay Dudney Clear Creek Nature Center Management Plan (Director of Parks and Cultural Services)
Background:
With the approval of the Dr. Ned & Fay Dudney Management Plan, the City of League City meets a deliverable of the original grant agreement with the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD). The City, in April 2001, was awarded the largest regional grant in the amount of $1,213,599 by TPWD. In January of 2002, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services (USFW) completed the land acquisition portion of the park by awarding $1,000,000 to leverage the TPWD funds. The 148 acre property was acquired for preservation and protection of valuable coastal riparian wetland habitats in the Clear Creek watershed.
The outcome of the management plan has been a collaboration of an advisory group of volunteers made up of Federal and State government natural resource experts, local conservation groups, interested private citizens and City staff. It provides a "Roadmap to the Future" with guidelines for the long term protection and management of the park by the City, its volunteer partners, and local resource agencies.
The management plan was approved by Parks Board on May 5, 2016. Upon City Council's approval, the management plan will be submitted to TPWD and USFW for final review and approval to complete the City's deliverable. Completion of this plan will allow the City to be eligible to pursue future grant opportunities for state funding through TPWD.
