Consider and take action on an ordinance approving the application and enforcement of traffic regulations in the Waterford Harbor Subdivision (Deputy City Manager)
Background:
Approval of this ordinance, will enforce the Texas Transportation Code Section 542.008 concerning municipality’s enforcement of traffic laws on private streets in subdivisions with a population of 300 or more. Two (2) methods of adopting the ordinance are listed below:
1. A petition of 25% of the property owners residing in the subdivision or;
2. The request of the governing body of the entity that maintains the roads.
The Waterford Harbor Homeowner’s Association has presented a letter requesting that the City of League City provide traffic enforcement on their private streets as they do on public.
As a condition to providing traffic enforcement on private streets, the owners of property may be required to pay all or part of the cost of extending and enforcing the traffic rules, including the cost associated with the placement of necessary traffic control devices. The Waterford Harbor Homes Owners Association has determined that the cost for signage and pavement markings will total $31,252.50. The Waterford Harbor HOA has received pricing from Stripe Lines, Inc. and will execute a contract for this work to be completed upon ordinance approval.
