Consider and take action on a resolution to approve a one year agreement with Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership for regional economic development services in the amount not to exceed $30,000 (Director of Economic Development)
Background:
Approval of this item will continue League City's participation in regional economic development through a new contract with the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership (BAHEP). This agreement replaces the expired contract and extends the partnership through September 30, 2017.
BAHEP is a nonprofit organization focusing on the growth of the region through retention, expansion, and recruitment of jobs and businesses.
Services provided by BAHEP include but are not limited to:
· Collaborate with regional organizations to protect and grow NASA, Ellington Airport and other regional assets as key drivers of regional economic development.
· Include League City in the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership comprehensive communications program geared to national marketing and disseminating information about the local business climate and business activities.
· Facilitate meetings with County and State elected officials to address issues of local, regional, state or national interest, including continued support for NASA as an economic engine for the region.
· Draw upon the resources of the Space Alliance Technology Outreach Program (SATOP) to create and retain jobs in the City of League City.
· Target and recruit businesses and companies for consideration of location, relocation, or expansion in the region.
· Organize and conduct coordinated marketing and sales programs to expand awareness of the Bay Area Houston region and local communities.
· Alert League City of potential loss or addition of business due to changes in policy, State or federal law, or other impacts.
· Assist League City in achieving the community’s economic development goals.
