Hold a public hearing on a proposal to increase total tax revenues from properties on the tax roll in the preceding tax year by 13 percent. This is the second of two required public hearings. The City Council will vote to adopt the tax rate on October 4, 2016 at 5:30 p.m. at Council Chambers, 200 West Walker, League City, TX 77573 (Assistant City Manager)
Background:
The Property Tax Code requires two public hearings should the proposed ad valorem tax rate exceed the lower of the rollback rate or the effective rate as calculated pursuant to State law. On September 6, 2016, the City Council adopted a proposed tax rate of $0.5735 per $100 valuation. This rate exceeds the effective tax rate of $0.550866 per $100 valuation. Therefore, two public hearings are required. The first hearing was held on September 20, 2016. This is the second of those hearings. Notice of this hearing was published in the Galveston County Daily News on September 12, 2016. The notice was also posted on the City's website, www.leaguecity.com.
The City Council is scheduled to adopt the 2016 ad valorem tax rate on October 4, 2016 at 5:30 p.m at a special called meeting of City Council.
