Consider and take action on a resolution authorizing a construction contract with Precise Services, Inc., for the Intersection Improvements at SH 96 & South Shore Boulevard Project (CIP #: ST1602), in an amount of $432,627.85, and authorizing the expenditure of an amount not to exceed $56,263 for a work change directive and construction material testing services budget (Deputy City Manager)
Background:
Approval of this resolution will authorize the construction contract to Precise Services, Inc. for construction of the Intersection Improvements at SH 96 & South Shore Boulevard Project, and authorize funds for a construction work change directive and construction material testing services budget.
The purpose of this project is to construct new left turn lanes in both directions of SH 96 and a new left turn lane for the northbound South Shore Blvd traffic. By adding these improvements, existing traffic delays will be reduced in this area and future traffic growth in the area can be better accommodated. In an effort to limit vehicle conflicts, the median cross-over between Kroger and HEB will be restricted to only allow left turns into the shopping centers. Both store managers are aware of the modification.
Two sealed bids for the project were received December 6, 2016. Precise Services, Inc. submitted the lowest total bid in the amount of $432,627.85. Attached is the City’s Engineering recommendation of award along with the bid tabulation.
Staff requests the approval of the award of the construction contract and the authorization of funds, as follows:
1. Construction contract with Precise Services, Inc. in the amount of $432,627.85.
2. Construction work change directive budget in the amount of $43,263 (10% of construction amount) that will allow staff to approve minor field changes to expedite decisions and avoid possible construction delays and/or damage claims by the contractor.
