Title

Consider and take action on a resolution authorizing the Office of Emergency Management to apply for the annual Emergency Management Performance Grant (Fire Chief)

Background:

The Emergency Management Performance Grant is an annual grant that is funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and distributed through the Texas Division of Emergency Management to assist local governments with development, implementation, and maintenance of emergency management programs.  Applicants are eligible for up to fifty percent of their annual budgeted program costs including salaries, equipment, training, and public education materials.  Based on an FY17 operating budget of about $195,000, the City could be eligible to receive approximately $97,500; however, past experience with the program suggests the City could reasonably expect funding of $45,000. The FY17 budget anticipates revenue from the grant in the amount of $50,000.

The City of League City has received this grant annually for more than 17 years, and has continued to meet or exceed grant requirements in the areas of emergency planning, exercises, training, and public education.
