During the awards ceremony, Katrina Beecher from League City was recognized as the TRAPS East Region 2017 Recreation Professional of the Year.

Katrina demonstrates passion and excellence in her work and is committed to providing recreational opportunities for League City residents. She also took on youth baseball and girls ASA softball, and increased enrollment in summer camp resulting in revenue increases of over $50,000 to the department.

She recently received her Master Naturalist Certification, which required monthly training, meetings and volunteer work. As a result, she is has added outdoor education programming at the Dr. Ned and Fay Dudney Nature Center. Katrina is a member of the Galveston Bay Area Mater Naturalists, and has utilized those connections to secure volunteers for a new program - Bird Watching at the Nature Center, which piloted in November, 2016 with 40 participants. She is one of the very few Recreation Specialists in the state of Texas to hold the Certified Parks and Recreation Professional, Master Naturalist and Leave No Trace certifications.
