Consider and take action on a request by the Lighthouse Christian Ministries for a variance to the Code of Ordinances of the City of League City, Chapter 74, Article I, Section 74-1, entitled “Hours for use of city parks and boat ramps”, for use of Hometown Heroes Park on April 29, 2017 (Director of Parks and Cultural Services)
Background:
Approval of this item will allow Lighthouse Christian Ministries in League City, TX to use Hometown Heroes Park multi-purpose room and gymnasiums to host the annual school Fundraiser and Silent Auction. The event is designed to raise funds for the Ministries, which include food assistance, financial aid, health and mental clinics, educational programs and seasonal programs. Lighthouse Christian Ministries is a designated 501(c)(3) organization which qualifies them for waiver of fees. The event is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m. on April 29, 2017 and end at 11:00 p.m.
As the event will last until 11:00 p.m., a variance is required for the 10:30 p.m. closing time as set forth by City Ordinance No. 90-09, Section 74-1. Approximately 400 people are expected to attend. Set-up and clean-up will be the responsibility of the Lighthouse Christian Ministries. This year will be the 5th year Lighthouse Christian Ministries has held the event at Hometown Heroes Park.
Past history reveals that staff experienced no problems during the course of this event.
