Consider and take action on a resolution authorizing a professional services agreement with Sander Engineering Corporation for the Annual Lift Station Improvements Project - Smith Lane Lift Station (WW1502A), in an amount not to exceed $66,500 (Director of Public Works)
Background:
Approval of this resolution will authorize a professional services agreement with Sander Engineering Corporation (SEC) for the design and construction phase engineering services related to the Annual Lift Station Improvements Project - Smith Lane Lift Station (WW1502A).
This is an annual program to systematically rehabilitate and upgrade the City’s sanitary sewer lift station facilities to reduce pump repair frequency, and prevent potential major structural, electrical or mechanical failures of the facility. The Smith Lane Lift Station was constructed in 1983 and primarily serves the Meadow Bend, South Shore Village, and Tuscan Lakes areas. The Smith Lane Lift Station force main was replaced in 2005 and an odor-control unit was added. The pumps, piping, and electrical controls have been in service over 30 years and have reached the end of their expected service life. The project consists of new pumps and piping, new controls and electrical components, new hatches and safety grates, new discharge piping and valves, and miscellanies minor items. The construction estimate for these improvements is $408,721.50 and are anticipated to be bid FY 2017.
Sander Engineering Corporation was approved as one of the short listed professional service providers for water and wastewater design services in April 2015 (staff is resubmitting an RFQ for short listed firms). They have been instrumental in the City’s annual program of evaluating, upgrading, and rehabilitating the City’s lift station facilities and have shown experience and knowledge in the lift station infrastructure upgrade, retro-fit improvements, and rehabilitation.
