Consider and take action on a resolution authorizing the submittal of a list of projects for the Texas Department of Transportation’s Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside Program (Director of Public Works)

Background:
Approval of this resolution will allow the City to submit a project list for needed sidewalk/trail infrastructure within the City of League City.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has announced a Call for Projects under the Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside (TA Set-Aside) Program for population areas of 200,000 or less. The TA Set-Aside program provides funding to construct a variety of alternative transportation projects that improve mobility for non-motorized users and mitigate congestion by providing transportation options. Eligible project activities include construction of on- and off-road pedestrian and bicycle accommodations (including conversions of abandoned railroads), infrastructure for non-drivers, access to public transportation, and Safe Routes to School Infrastructure.

As part of our effort to improve mobility within the City by building new sidewalk/trail links and/or replacing older non-compliant sidewalks with ADA compliant sidewalks, staff has identified seven important sidewalk segments to submit for grant consideration.

The first project is for the removal and replacement of sidewalks within the Newport Subdivision. The City currently is rehabilitating the water and sewer lines within this subdivision and would like to remove and replace the existing non-ADA-compliant sidewalks throughout the neighborhood with compliant sidewalks. The estimated cost for this project is $250,000.

The second project is for the removal and replacement of non-ADA-compliant sidewalks segments and the installation of missing sidewalk segments on both sides of FM 2094 between Glen Cove and FM 270.
