Hold a public hearing on a proposal to adopt a tax rate of $0.565, which is effectively a 2.8 percent increase in the tax rate. This is the second of two required public hearings. The City Council will vote to adopt the tax rate on October 3, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. at Council Chambers, 200 West Walker, League City, TX 77573 (Assistant City Manager)
Background:
The Property Tax Code requires two public hearings should the proposed ad valorem tax rate exceed the lower of the rollback rate or the effective rate as calculated pursuant to State law. On September 12, 2017, the City Council adopted a proposed tax rate of $0.565 per $100 valuation. This rate exceeds the effective tax rate of $0.54961 per $100 valuation by 2.8%. Therefore, two public hearings are required. This is the second of those hearings. Notice of this hearing was published in the Galveston County Daily News on September 15, 2017. The notice was also posted on the City's website, www.leaguecity.com.
The first hearing was held on September 21, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. The City Council is scheduled to adopt the 2017 ad valorem tax rate on October 3, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. at a special called meeting of City Council.
