Consider and take action on a resolution authorizing a two-year agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation regarding the shared use of intelligent transportation systems data (Director of Information Technology)
Background:
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is the owner of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) infrastructure that consists of an ITS field network (including but not limited to sensors, cameras, signs and communication links constructed along segments of the State highway system) and an ITS business network that has produced and produces transportation-related information that is used for the purpose of traffic management in which the State owns certain rights, title, and interests related thereto.
TxDOT has agreed to grant the City a non-exclusive right to use all or portions of traffic data from TxDOT's ITS field networks and ITS business network. Under this agreement, certain city departments (Traffic, Engineering and Police) will have access to (and control of) the video cameras along with freeway and any others on state right-of-ways. The Police Department will have the ability to see the freeway and other TXDOT roadway cameras in case of an emergency situation or other traffic situations.
