Recognition of Service Awards (25-year and 30-year Employees) (Director of Human Resources and Civil Service)
Background:
During a luncheon on Tuesday, February 6, at the Johnnie Arolfo Civic Center, a number of employees were recognized for their years of service to the City, ranging from 10- up to 30- years (5-year increments). These employees achieved these milestones in 2017. One-year and five-year service awardees should have received their certificates via their leadership in the last few weeks.
Seven employees have been with the City of League City for 25- and 30-years.
The following are not able to join us:
25-years: Barbara Funderburg (Library) and John Griffith (Police)
30-years: Gregory Morgan (Police) and Annalouise Titsworth (Library)
Ann sent her regrets but did share one of her favorite moments in her time with the City Library. She recalls when Total Quality Management was incorporated at the Library. ALL employees formed little groups in which everyone had the opportunity to suggest practical, and innovative changes to save money, time and effort.

25-years:
Troy McGee (Police):
• Currently a Sergeant in our Criminal Investigations Division of the League City Police Department
• A US Navy Veteran and originally from Nebraska, Sergeant McGee joined the City of League City in 1992
• Most memorable moment: Hurricane Rita was threatening the area and most LC residents had evacuated. The best part of that experience was, NO TRAFFIC anywhere in town
• In 1992, he was interviewed by a local reporter who asked why he became a police officer -- The answer he gave then is the same one that has kept him in the profession. It’s also the same one that has kept him at League City: A desire to make the place he lives in a little bit nicer.
30-years:
Jody Hooks (Public Works - Administration):
• Joined the City in July 1987 as a crewman in the Wastewater Department.
• One memory on day one is remembering someone tapping me on the shoulder at 10:00 am and 3:00 pm and saying “hey it’s break time”, that blew my mind at the time, coming from the offshore oil patch where 14 straight 12-16 hour days were the norm
• My most memorable moment: When he stepped up from the ranks to become Department Head.
• He has stayed at the City because he has always been surrounded by great people to work with and for, and for that reason he’s never really had the desire to leave
John Lothrop (Engineering):
• Joined the City’s Engineering Department as a Construction Inspector in September 1987
• Words of wisdom he was given by City Engineer at the time, Mr. Jesse Hegemier, "You will find that people come and go, but that the City moves ahead with them or without them."
• Why he stayed: “Compensation, of course! But compensation, it turns out was, and is, multi-faceted. The blessings of community, the variety of meaningful, challenging work, and the sense that the present, building upon the foundations of the past, aimed toward a vision of greater service - these are the forms of compensation he is most grateful for
• John most recently retired from the city in January 2018
