Background:
Volunteers are one of the most important resources community organizations have. The League City Police Department recognizes that the health and well-being of League City relies on a partnership with our citizens and other community stakeholders. To that end, our agency adopted the Volunteers In Policing Program (VIP) in 2013. The program is comprised of graduates of the League City Police Department Citizen Police Academy. We currently have 93 VIPs that volunteer over 8,000 hours a year. Our VIPs conduct such tasks as neighborhood patrols, disabled parking enforcement, golf cart inspections and code enforcement duties. They also pick up over 400 bandit signs a month.

The VIPs support and supplement existing police services of LCPD. Although we could put a monetary value on their labor, this is too simplistic. There is an intrinsic value to their efforts. Allowing our citizens to volunteer lends credibility to our programs, encourages fresh perspectives, provides immediate access to the community we serve, and stimulates public involvement on important issues.

Our volunteers are vibrant, dynamic, engaged, and self-reliant members of our society. They donate their time and talents for various reasons: to learn new skills, find new friends, challenge themselves, gain recognition, and to contribute to the community. Whatever the reason, our VIPs choose to serve with League City Police Department, and we are pleased to recognize them and motivate them to continue in their service.
