Consider and take action on a resolution authorizing staff to proceed with the design and construction of the Animal Shelter Project (PD1502) of approximately 15,080 square feet in an amount not to exceed $7,500,000 (Chief of Police)
Background:
Approval of this resolution will authorize staff to proceed with the construction of the Animal Shelter Project (PD1502).
The Animal Shelter was approved in the FY 2017-2021 capital improvement plan that was presented to City Council as a part of the FY 2017 budget process with a total budget of $7,500,000.
By approving this item, the project will move forward as follows:
1. The Animal Shelter shall be constructed with a Building Area (including external kennels) of 15,080 square feet.
2. A total of $650,000 is budgeted for the preliminary engineering, engineering design, and construction phase services on the 8.06-acre tract of land immediately southwest of the Public Safety Building.
3. Project costs shall be funded in an amount not to exceed $7,500,000 to include a construction cost of $5,798,365, soft cost (furniture, fixtures, equipment, security, data and telephones) of $350,000, escalation cost of $360,000, and a 5% contingency cost of $290,000.
CONTRACT ORIGINATION: The resolution has been reviewed and approved by the City Attorney.
