Title
Recognition of the 2017 Texas Amateur Athletic Federation League City Male and Female Athletes of the year (Mayor Hallisey)

Background:
Texas Amateur Athletic Federation and the City of League City have the opportunity to recognize one male and female athlete from each affiliated City based on their character and achievements throughout the year. Those athletes are eligible to advance to regional and state athlete of the year recognitions. Due to their success in 2017, the Recreation Department would like to recognize Mariah Jackson and Drew Viner as the 2017 Female and Male League City Athletes of the Year.

Mariah, age 12, has been playing basketball in League City parks and recreation since she was 6 years old. In 2017, she served as a point guard on the 18-0 state champion basketball team in the 12U winter season along with the 8-0 summer league team. She displays leadership, good sportsmanship and a positive attitude both on and off the court. Aside from basketball, Mariah has also played softball for 5 seasons. The Recreation Department is proud to recognize Mariah Jackson as the 2017 TAAF League City Female Athlete of the Year.

Drew, age 12, has been playing soccer since he was 3 years old. He has been an active participant on the 12u Revolution soccer team for the past 4 seasons. Drew is the ultimate competitor and scores a lot of goals, but looks to get others involved in the action as well. Drew is very competitive and passionate and strives to be successful, always putting in 100% effort regardless of the score. Aside from soccer, Drew has played baseball for 3 years, basketball for 5 years and flag football for 1 year. Most important, Drew is a very good role model to children, demonstrating great sportsmanship and positive leadership skills. The Recreation Department is proud to recognize Drew Viner as the 2017 TAAF League City Male Athlete of the Year.
