Title

Consider and take action on a resolution authorizing an expenditure with Teamwork Construction Services in an amount not to exceed $219,219.90 for the Bay Colony Community Trail Project (PK1802) and authorizing an additional $21,921.00 for a construction work change directive budget (Director of Budget & Project Management)

Background:

Approval of this resolution will authorize the construction of a 6-foot wide multi-use concrete path along sections of Cross Colony Drive in the Bay Colony Subdivision. This trail project came to the 4B Board from the Bay Colony HOA. There are currently no sidewalks along this section of Cross Colony Drive and the HOA asked to build 4-foot wide sidewalks in this area. After review of the Trails Master Plan, it was noted that Cross Colony Drive calls for a 6’ wide trail in this area. The HOA agreed to the 6-foot wide multi-use path if the City funded the cost of the additional 2-foot width. The 4B board approved up to $94,775.00 to support this project with the HOA contributing $146,366.00 which covers the base 4-foot sidewalk. These sidewalks will provide enhanced connectivity within the neighborhood.

The Bay Colony Community Trail will allow for increased connectivity of the citywide Hike and Bike Trail System. It will also help connect trails on the west side of League City to trails in the central section of town facilitating greater access to local schools, parks, neighborhoods, and businesses. This trail segment will also promote safer routes for all bikers, runners, and walkers as an alternative for FM 646 and within the roadway. Construction of this trail project will fall within the City’s existing sidewalk contract and will not begin until the HOA provides their cost-share. The HOA continues to discuss the potential for additional sidewalk/trail at their expense along Cross Colony which may come back to Council as a project change order.
