Consider and take action on a resolution authorizing a construction contract with AAA Asphalt Paving, Inc. for the 2017 Asphalt Streets Rehabilitation Project Package 3 (CIP# RE 1704B) in an amount not to exceed $1,446,355.35 and authorizing the expenditure of an additional $144,636 for a construction work change directive budget (Director of Budget & Project Management)
Background:
Approval of this resolution will authorize the awarding of a construction contract to AAA Asphalt Paving, Inc. for construction of Package 3 of the 2017 Asphalt Streets Rehabilitation Project (RE 1704B) and also authorize a construction work change directive budget.
The purpose of this project is to perform road base repairs and asphalt resurfacing as part of an annual infrastructure reinvestment program. Package 3 consists of Dallas, Waco and Perkins streets (North of Main Street, West of the railroad, and East of Highway 3). Package 3 also includes the following streets within the Shellside Subdivision: Mayhaw (9th), Olive, Peach, Strawberry (west side), Virginia, Arkansas, Maryland, Oklahoma and Kentucky. Alternate #1 consists of Peach, Perkins, and Waco. The approximate length of mill and overlay operations is 18,693 linear feet.
Sealed bids for the project were received on June 19, 2018 (Bid No. 18-034A). AAA Asphalt Paving, Inc. submitted the lowest bid in the amount of $945,580.40 with a bid for Alternate #1 in the amount of $500,774.95. Considering budget constraints, staff chose to designate some of the streets as Alternate #1. The engineering consultant’s recommendation of award and the bid tabulation are attached.
Staff requests the approval of the award of the construction contract and the authorization of funds as follows:
