Title
Consider and take action on a resolution authorizing an Interlocal Agreement with the City of Houston for City of League City’s use of an armored vehicle owned by the City of Houston (Chief of Police)

Background:
Approval of this resolution will authorize an Interlocal Agreement with the City of Houston for City of League City’s use of an armored vehicle owned by the City of Houston.

Over the years of coordinated training and association between the League City Police Department’s (LCPD) Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit and the Houston Police Departments (HPD) SWAT Unit, a close working relationship has developed. Within the last twenty-four (24) months, leaders of HPD’s SWAT Unit advised LCPD’s SWAT Unit that they were going to retire an old armored vehicle that they had received from the 100 Club of Houston twenty-five (25) years ago that has already been replaced, but it still has value and is in good operational condition.

The addition of this armored vehicle will serve several needs for the League City Police Department and the City. This armored vehicle will serve as a backup for the current armored vehicle when it is down for service. This additional vehicle will also provide additional capabilities for tactical response to high risk call-outs due to it being smaller in size than our current armored vehicle, which is extremely beneficial when there is limited space for access. This vehicle also provides the City with another high-water vehicle that will be able to be used for emergency response and rescue. During Hurricane Harvey, the HPD SWAT Unit utilized this vehicle for high-water rescues.

The Interlocal Agreement that is attached has been reviewed and approved by the City Attorney.
